Topic: Growing Together:SARPC’s Business and Workforce Development Resources
 
Martin Lee serves as the Economic Development and Grants Coordinator for the South Alabama Regional Planning Commission's (SARPC) Community Planning and Economic Development Department. He manages grant development and administration, oversees SARPC's Revolving Loan Fund, and supports brownfield redevelopment, economic development planning, and infrastructure projects across the region. His work focuses on helping communities, nonprofits, and small businesses access funding, advance community development initiatives, and implement projects that strengthen local economies. Drawing on experience in lending, grants management, and economic analysis, Martin works with local governments and partner organizations to move projects from concept to implementation.
 
Sydney Smith serves as the Workforce Development Program Specialist for SARPC’s Community Planning and Economic Development department. For the past four years, she has helped older workers gain the skills and confidence needed to find unsubsidized employment through the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). Sydney earned her bachelor’s degree in English and Strategic Communication from the University of Mobile. Beyond her professional role, Sydney and her husband actively support their community through the blessing box ministry and invest in the next generation through youth ministry.
